May.20,2025I, like all, have a few regrets done over time.
One I’ll NEVER forget is: My ship (DE-634 , USS Whitehurst) was at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Tied next to a pier. I was painting over the side. Saw an Orange color WAY Back on a pier cross piece. Curious, I decided to find out what it was and climbed to it. It was a Life Preserver…..with the name of the ship it had been on:
USS ARIZONA!!!
My regret is I gave it to a shipmate when I left the service. Sure wish I still had it. sigh re
